Cultivating Hope: The McKees Rocks Fruit & Vegetable Garden Project
Our Mission
We are a mother-daughter duo, Chrissy and Asia, dedicated to transforming a local plot in McKees Rocks into a thriving, sustainable source of fresh fruits and vegetables. Our mission is to combat local food insecurity, promote healthy eating, and model urban agriculture practices right here in our neighborhood.
Why McKees Rocks Needs This Garden
Access to fresh, affordable, and nutritious produce remains a significant challenge for many residents in the McKees Rocks community.
Combating Food Deserts: Fresh produce can be difficult to access locally without reliable transportation.
Nutritional Health: Active community gardens improve dietary habits by making healthy choices easily available.
Community Resilience: Growing food locally fosters self-reliance and teaches valuable sustainable skills to the next generation.
The Funding Challenge: Why We Need a Grant
While our passion is boundless, our out-of-pocket resources are limited. To scale our garden from a small personal plot into a high-yielding community resource, we require external financial support.
